I have to share with you all my most exciting purchase this week (even better than my Publix run!) When we moved to our home almost five years ago, I was thrilled to have a pretty (albeit plain) foyer. To me, a foyer meant that we were in a “grown-up” home, and I've always loved it.
However, for five years I have patiently waited to decorate my foyer (I'm not sure my hubby would call it “patiently waiting”, but I did wait). A few years ago I bought a bench for it, but there was still this empty hole right as guests entered our home that simply begged to be filled. I knew exactly what I wanted, and envisioned the table, lamp, and picture frame that belonged there. I even shared with friends the vision when they came to visit, as if by telling them what belonged there, they would understand that in some wierd way it really was there – even if only in my mind. (Crazy, huh?) And I can't remember a single time walking by that little spot without wishing it to be filled!
Well, after five long years of waiting, I finally filled my little corner this week! It cost me around $100 (at my favorite Hobby Lobby – be sure to print your coupon HERE!) and I pinched some pennies out of our budget so that I had cash in hand to give the checker lady (who thought I was a little nutty as I explained to her how crazily excited I was; apparently other people spend $100 at Hobby Lobby and aren't jumping out of their skin like I was!)
Now, our family is incredibly blessed and we probably could have found that $100 somewhere over the last five years. But the truth is, we really didn't need it. We have baseball and gymnastics and piano lessons to pay for, and my little corner just hasn't been a priority. I've often visited friends' homes, and felt tinges of jealousy over their expensive decor, while dreaming of having it in my own home. But, I'm pretty content with my little Hobby Lobby “bling”, and because I patiently waited (FOREVER!!!) for it, I'm so incredibly thankful.
So, the next time you just HAVE to have something, try a little patient penny pinching. I promise, it'll be worth the wait! (Remind me of that as I start waiting for the foyer's rug . . . let me tell you exactly how it'll look!!!)
And for the rest of the story . . . my mess Reagan went with me to Hobby Lobby (have you ever taken a 2 year old to Hobby Lobby?) Not only did she beg to touch EVERYTHING, she pooped in her Pull Up (thank goodness she had one on!) while we were in the store, and since I was late for the school bus we rushed home with no time for a change! Well, she fell asleep on the way home (my car was fuming) and I made the dreaded mistake of letting her sleep, poopified, in my cozy warm car. You can imagine the smell when I opened the car door! But, by golly, my corner is full!!!
