HP Instant Ink Service (LOVE IT!)
Hi all – Mary here!
Have you ever tried to print coupons, school projects, or a PPP free printable or PDF download…but then realized that your HP printer was out of ink? 🙁
If so, the HP Instant Ink Program is just what you need!
I purchased an HP color printer last year, and after doing a little research, I decided to sign up up for the HP Instant Ink Program ~ the savings and convenience were a no-brainer. Plus, I never have to worry about running out of ink!
What is it? How does it work? Keep reading!
What is Instant Ink?
Basically, Instant Ink is a smart ink subscription program for your HP printer that delivers ink to your door before you run out. Your monthly fee includes ink monitoring, replacement cartridges as needed, shipping, and recycling for as little as $1.49 per month – and you'll save up to 50% on traditional cartridges!
Plus, HP Instant Ink cartridges are extra high capacity, and they contain months-worth of ink depending on your usage. You can print as much as you want as long as you are enrolled in the HP Instant Ink plan!
Considering how expensive ink is nowadays, this seems like a no-brainer way to save! 🙂
Sign up HERE for a completely FREE $10 Instant Ink Credit!
Here's how HP Instant Ink works:
Sign up and choose a plan. Choose a plan based on how often you print NOT how much ink you use.
Start printing. Every page costs the same, so you can print high resolution photos for the same price as black & color documents.
Ink ships when low. Your printer detects when your ink is low on ink and automatically ships more when you need it, not every month.
Recycle cartridges. Easily send empty cartridges back for recycling with the included prepaid return envelope.
Change or cancel any time. You can change or cancel your plan any time. Extra pages just cost $1 to print.

Instant ink changed my life. (I'm a teacher) -Jennifer
How does Instant Ink work?
It's easy and convenient! Plans start at just $1.49 per month and are based on pages printed each month, not the number of cartridges you use. Whenever you enroll, you’ll select a plan best suited to your printing needs – it is flexible and can be changed at any time. Here are the different plans available:
- Light – $1.49 per month (print 10 pages per month)
- Occasional – $4.99 per month (print 50 pages per month)
- Moderate – $6.99 per month (print 100 pages per month)
- Frequent – $13.99 per month (print 300 pages per month)
- Business – $27.99 per month (print 700 pages per month)
Don't worry – you won't be bombarded with a bunch of cartridges that you'll have to stockpile somewhere. You'll only get cartridges when your printer starts getting low on ink – not every month. And, you'll only be billed for your monthly plan fee, plus any additional pages you printed during your billing cycle.
Other benefits of HP Instant Ink:
- You’ll never have to shop in-store or online for printer ink again. Ink is always sent straight to your door.
- You’ll never get halfway through a print job before running out of ink. Ink is sent automatically before your ink levels get too low.
- You can save money over buying expensive cartridges in-store, which may not always be the best bargain. Instant Ink customers save up to 50% on ink cartridges.
- All ink is genuine HP products that offer high-quality prints every time. Plus, it matches your printer, so you don’t have to guess or remember which model type you have.
- You pay the same price for color and black-and-white prints, because each counts as one printed page. Print a black-and-white Word document or a borderless photo print – it’s all the same to your plan.
- No more ink rationing or switching to gray scale to save ink. Print full-color pages and photos whenever you want.
- Rollover pages ensure you always get your money’s worth, even if you have light printing needs during certain months.
- The plan benefits the environment both because you don’t have to drive to buy ink and because each cartridge is easily recyclable with postage-paid envelopes.
- Your plan comes with HP support. If you ever have problems or aren't satisfied with a cartridge, they'll take care of your issues right away.
- The plan is integrated into your HP software, so you can handle all your print tasks from the HP Smart app and also see printer health, check ink levels, and perform maintenance.

I’ve been using this service for about 4 years now. I really like it. Also, if you print less than the amount of pages in your plan, they carry over to the next month. Here’s my dilemma, I initially signed up for the 50 pages/month, since the plan under that seemed too small and I didn’t want to go over the amount. I’m at the point that I have over 1000 extra pages I can print. I want to change to the lower tier, but I will lose all the extra pages. So make sure you choose the plan that’s right for you.

I’ve used this service for several years. It’s excellent! Ink comes just when I need it. They send a self-paid envelope to return the used cartridges to recycle. Totally optional. This service is definitely worth it.

I concur. I have used the service for a few years now and I just love it so convenient and affordable and flexible to your needs as they may change. It’s a game changer.!

I’ve had an HP instant ink printer since 2016. I thought there had to be a catch and I was very tired of running out of ink and the sometimes sudden unplanned cost (both cartridges at the same time, not on sale, ouch!) But between the printer itself being on sale or clearance and it came with 12 free months i figured why not try it out. Well, 7 years later I’m still here. I’ve upgraded printers since then, but I’m still with instant ink, upgraded to the platinum plan last year (you pay a little more monthly but you get a new printer from HP and a new printer every 2 years and it too came with 6 free months.) and even added the paper option to the plan recently. Literally, it all comes in the mail, as long as you have electricity and internet, you’re good to go. print quality it great, the supplies just come in the mail (ink and paper as needed, the printer when you upgrade to the platinum plan and I find out in a year how the printer upgrade works, but from what I read online I’ll get an email). If you’re on the fence about using the hp instant ink, or are tired of paying a lot for ink, check it out. I’ve had zero issues. As part of the platinum printer setup, you do have to call HP and talk to a person to get setup, but it was an easy call and i remember the info they told me all being useful since I was brand new to the platinum plan and all.

Have have used the HP subscription since I bought my HP printer, it came with a 90 day free trial. ($5.99). I thought there has to be a catch because colored ink is usually more expensive than black, since it was free I would sign up for the 90 free trial and cancel) I bought some photo paper and started printing pictures off my phone and they looked Amazing and at the time cheaper than my local stores.
Then I your planners, I feel in love with your planners (literally my husband jokes and says I love my planner more than him and our kids) but at the time you only had the digital planner for downloading so I downloaded it, printed it bought some page protectors and a Cute binder. I have bought the planner digitally for 3 years and printed on my HP punters (Love my subscription) but when your beautifully designed hard copy planners came out I fell in love all over again and haven’t missed a year yet. So for anyone who already has a HP Printer and are on a tight budget set up the monthly HP subscription, order the digital download planner and print away. That simple.
