Hi all – Mary here! My adult kids were all home a couple weeks ago for Fall Break and we played a new game called Hookey…it was SO MUCH FUN! (They weren’t playing hooky, I promise! 😂)

So how do you play this game??

Basically, it’s a mix between darts and ring toss, but uses rubber rings instead of sharp objects or magnets. AND, there are actually a bunch of different variations that you can play with just one board!

We have a competitive family, so everyone enjoyed this game, but it’s perfect for people of all ages and competitive levels. If you’ve been wanting to strengthen your math skills, this game will definitely do that!

One of our favorites to play was Thirty One or Out, but they’re all fun! Before starting, you’ll need to determine a starting line where everyone will stand when tossing the rings (don’t cross over the line!).

Here are a few variations you can play…

Traditional Hookey – Each player throws 6 rings at the board per turn and the total score for each player will be counted. The first player to reach the exact score of 101 wins the match. If a player lands a ring that puts their score over 101, that ring must be subtracted from their score.
Beginner’s Game 1 – The player that reaches a pre-agreed number (i.e. 50 or 100) using the fewest rings wins the game.
Beginners Game 2 – The highest score after each player has thrown three sets of rings wins the game.
Round the Clock – Players try to hook every number in sequence from 1-13. If a player hooks an incorrect number, their turn is over and the next person plays.
Thirty One or Out – The first player to reach the EXACT score of 31 wins. If a player scores over 31, their score starts over at zero. The game continues until someone lands the exact score of 31.

Hookey is available in two sizes – the Classic size or Giant size. We have the Giant size, but I think both sizes are great. We’re definitely going to be playing this game with family over the holidays…so fun!
