Good Books for Girls
Shannon here!
Trying to find a good books for girls was a lot harder than I thought it would be. If you have an avid teen girl reader at home, you may struggle with what books to put in front of her. We tend to be pretty strict on what goes into our kids' minds via movies or books. I just don't want Faith, my 13 year old, reading books that go against our beliefs.
I love bonding with my daughter over books we read together. Before you begin a book, I suggest always reading the book through first in case there are some things in it you would like to discuss and talk about.
YOUNG TEEN/TWEEN BOOKS FOR GIRLS….
My favorite series Faith & I have read TOGETHER are…
The River In Time Series This series is sooo fun! Y'all it has such funny parts and good parts. And along the way we learned some history…. Such a win/win!
Grand Tour Series by Lisa Bergren is really good as well
A Remnant Novels (Trilogy) by Lisa Bergren this is my daughter all time favorite! It took me the first half of the first book to get into the series but once I got into it it was EXCELLENT! It is more sci fi.
A Bellmont Mansion Series was really good and you can even do live tours for the book in Nashville at the Bellmont Mansion. I did this with my youngest for her birthday and it was soooo cool!
Deep In The Heart Of Trouble by Deanne Gist this one is so good and funny.
Maid To Match by Deanne Gist
Beguiled by Deanne Gist
The Pirate Brideby Kathleen Y'Barbo
Unintended Detour Series – This is actually a local author and is the sweetest! (She actually offered to bring me the 3rd book when my youngest has sick). If you like thriller and romance this is for you. My daughter absolutely loved the first book and my favorite was the 3rd. This book series I thoroughly enjoyed! (You can sign up for her emails over HERE and make sure to check out her website over HERE as well :))
Waves of Mercy Series – This was a great series Faith and I enjoyed! Its always the question WHO DOES SHE CHOOSE?
Under the Northern Skies Series – by Lorraine Snelling is a good one as well we both enjoyed. I am half Norwegian so it was fun reading these!
A Proper Pursuit ~ this one is sooo funny! It has a great message and just a good read!
Other Lynn Austin Books we have read that are really good:
Where We Belong this one was okay…. Faith got bored with it but if your daughter likes adventure she may like this one
A Medieval Fairy Tale Series – It's a super cute series.
Fairy Tale Romance Series – This series is sooooo sooo good!
Older Teen Girl/College Aged Good Books…
These are more like Senior Year before-they-go-to-college books! My oldest daughter is not a reader at all but we did read these books together:
Redeeming Love – by far one of the best books EVER but after listening to this review opened my eyes as much as I love this book of redemption the Bible by far is the book we look to for the true story of Hosea! (Before seeing the movie PLEASE listen to this review!)
The Martas Series is a good book series for older teens or if you have a young adult daughter that loves to read
Lineage of Grace is another that is EXCELLENT!
Teen Books
Here are my 13 year-old Faith's Favorite Series ~ I have not read these with her but she loves these. They are all teen Christian realistic fiction for girls:
BUT FIRST – my daughter's ALL TIME FAVORITE…… (so much so that she has let all her friends borrow this series and they talk about it all the time. Like seriously we went on a trip to the lake with two of her friends and they talked about this book most of the way!)
is …. Robin Jones Gunn's ‘Christy Miller' Series
Here is the order they come in:
1. Christy Miller2. Sierra Jenson series3. Christy and Todd the college years4. Christy and Todd the married years5. Katie Weldon series6. Sunsets book7. Christy and Todd the baby years8. The Glenbrooke series (optional)
Roadside Assistance by Amy Clipston – This is Faith's second favorite book series. She said the first two are excellent but the third isn't good at all so you may want to skip that one.
Beverly Lewis Holly's Heart Series by Beverly Lewis – So we found this in the clearance bin at a local bookstore for $2 each and Faith loved this series!
Tween Books
This was such a hard age to find good books for girls. Thankfully Faith found a few really good ones.
Samantha Sanderson Series is great for the tween age girls!
Don't forget the Book Light while you're at it!
Saving on Books
Audiobooks: If you are not much of a reader, audio books are great! (Get 3 Free Audiobooks here!)
Book Swap: To keep things cheap (or even free!) you and/or your daughter can also swap out books with friends.
Book Thrift Shops: We have a local Second and Charles discount book store we grab some books at. Some other great places to grab books are Amazon (used), Ebay, Thriftbooks, Christianbook.com and Lifeway.
eBooks: We love the FEEL of a book and are not crazy about reading on a Kindle, but there are a lot of free ebooks you can snag if you can't get to the library. (I personally am on the computer so much I have no desire to read in front of a screen.)
So…. we pretty much spend a ton of money on books! 🤷♀️

We enjoy the Robin Jones Gunn books in our house and recently discovered Ally Carter’s Gallagher Girls series. I think you could add the Mother Daughter book club series to the tween list. I read it with my oldest a few years ago and will start it again when my next one hits 5th grade.
We like to use our library to find books but if the ones we want aren’t available we go through ThriftBooks. I have ordered from them for years with no issues. You can check them out here: https://www.thriftbooks.com/share/?code=ihBKz6fmCfyKSK7PNYeN%252fg%253d%253d

Any book by Janette Oke. I started by reading the “Love comes Softly” series. These books actually made a person that hates to read , love to read. Then I shared them with my nieces, when they were teens. Great books!!

Oh my goodness Becky! This is my daughter and her friends. She talks about them like they are real, but she gets it honest. My Friday walks with my friend Jen we talk about the book series we are in as if the characters are real. Its so fun!
