Barbecue Crock Pot Ribs Recipe

I think I’ve finally figured out ribs in the slow cooker (WOOHOO!).  After reading through a few suggestions on how to cook ribs in the crockpot, I made these today and they were perfect.  If you’d like ribs but don’t want to fire up the grill, this crock pot ribs recipe is a simple way to make them inside. So good, and you only need five ingredients . . . love that!

Here’s the trick:  do NOT just put the ribs in the slow cooker.

Menu Planning Note: You can also find this recipe in our Slow Cooker Menu Planning Made Easy Set!

(I know, I know . . . that takes a little of the fun out of slow cooking, but I promise spending a few minutes to prepare those ribs in the morning will reward you with some fall-apart-heavenly ribs!)

Allow just thirty minutes in the morning to pre-bake them in the oven, and then let your slow cooker to the rest of the cooking for you.  These were so good that my family declared them better than Logan’s Roadhouse, and liked them as much as our favorite rib recipe for the grill.

Yup, I was a rockstar at our house this week.

Here’s the Crock Pot Ribs recipe if you’d like to be a rockstar today too. 🙂

Slow Cooker Barbecue Ribs Recipe

Course: Dinner, Lunch

Ingredients

  • Salt To Taste
  • Pepper To Taste
  • Garlic Salt To Taste
  • 1 Bottle Barbecue Sauce Any you like - we use Sweet Baby Ray's
  • 3 - 4 lbs

Pork Long Country Style Ribs, or Pork Sirloin Chops

Instructions

  • Season ribs with salt, pepper and garlic salt.
  • Bake at 350 in oven for 15 minutes, then turn ribs over and bake another 15 minutes.
  • Transfer ribs to slow cooker (you may need to cut them to fit into Mrs. Potts!) 🙂
  • Pour bottle of barbecue sauce over top of the ribs.
  • Cook for 6-7 hours on low.
  • Serve along with extra barbecue sauce (optional).

Sauce Tip:

If the sauce is too thin when the cooking time is done, drain the sauce from the ribs, and pour it into a sauce pan. Combine 1 teaspoon cornstarch with a small amount of cold water, stir into the sauce, and bring the sauce to a boil. Cook until the sauce has reached the desired thickness.

If you don’t have any barbecue sauce at the house – this homemade BBQ sauce recipe has tons of rave reviews and is worth a shot!

Here’s what Grocery by PPP members are saying about this recipe!

I’ve made these ribs for Christmas the last 2 years. They were so good that my 14 year old son has requested them again. Might have to double it though for the amount of food he is eating right now.😉 – Kristin B.

This crock-pot ribs recipe looks so straightforward and satisfying. I love that it just uses a few simple pantry staples and a slow cooker — perfect for days when you want fall-apart tender ribs without firing up the grill. The step of baking them first to lock in that texture sounds like a small extra effort that makes a big difference.

I’ve tried recreating Applebee’s riblets at home before after enjoying them on their menu too (see Applebee’s steaks & ribs for reference). The restaurant’s slow-cooked riblets have a classic BBQ vibe, though the texture is a bit different from real baby back ribs. Either way, this slow-cooker version looks like a great next thing to try for a juicy, cozy meal.

Hi there- question regarding the “pork long country style ribs”.. my store sold these as the boneless one, but your pic shows bone-in ribs. I’m confused if I need bone in or out.. Is there a taste difference? What do I buy? Thank you!

    • Madison ~ PPP Team says

Hi, Maura! You can use Pork Long Country Style Ribs or Pork Sirloin Chops! If you can only find boneless, that should be fine. I hope this helps answer your question!

I just want to say, These were delicious! Our only complaint, was that they were sitting in a crock bowl of grease. Has anyone else experienced this, or are there Any tips to decrease this? Thanks Laurie!

Do you pull the membrane from your ribs first before you put it the slow cooker? We have been trying for an hour to pull the membrane and we are just hacking them to pieces (even with the paper towel trick). We bought baby back ribs from Costco. Thanks
