Cracker Barrel Gets a Makeover
Love the country charm of Cracker Barrel's nostalgic decor? Enjoy eating chicken and dumplings beneath a rusted wheelbarrow and an old-timey picture of someone's ancestor? Well brace yourself… Cracker Barrel's getting a makeover and the rustic decor is going out the door.
Cracker Barrel announced last Summer that they will be renovating over 600 locations with a more whitewashed, farmhouse vibe. And at this point 40 locations have received the makeover and we're starting to see what the new Cracker Barrel looks like.
The walls have gone from cluttered and country brown to cleaned up and white.
While there are still some antique decor pieces gracing the interior, the look is less “jumbled collection of americana” and more curated aesthetic groupings.
Cleaner and brighter is the overall impression we get from the videos posted online. But diners and fans have differing opinions, some approving of the “glow up” and some nostalgic for the “old look”.
On the bright side – the menu doesn't look like it's going anywhere – with the only exception being some seasonal offerings.
If your local Cracker Barrel is one of the 40 who's gotten a recent makeover, we'd love to hear what you think! Either way, we're still a big fan of the chicken and dumplings 😉
YES!!! It is about time! I am so excited for the brighter dining space!!
Thanks for chiming in, Ruth!
My CB has yet to be remodeled. I hope it is a long while before they do. The new Farmhouse-style is create for a home or Third Watch, but people loved going to CB to see the old things that used to hang in the grandparents’ or parents’ house. Mine has one of the old fashioned wall crank telephones. The base is angled so you could write on it. My grandparents kept theirs on the wall right where it had always been, even when the new rotary phone was put in.
Younger people and kids have no idea what some things are, so removing these items from the store will make it difficult to teach them what a plow looked like or old-fashioned ads for shaving cream or Remingtons. (Honestly these kids do not even know what a cassette player is or how we had to wind it with a Bic pen or pencil.)
Now the menu…. I always got the same thing – chicken tenders fried. What they replaced it will is not all that great, so I tried the grilled tenders. Those are better, but I still miss things that used to be on the menu. C’est la vie, I suppose.
Those are some great points, Jennifer! Hopefully they will still keep a lot of those same pieces of decor around, just displayed in a different way. Thanks for chiming in! 🙂
I love the new look. I always wondered how they got by with all the dust, etc. Hanging on the walks. I don’t the the Cracker Barrel I go to has ever cleaned or dusted all of the great nostalgic artwork. Hope mine is one slated for the new look.
Ours has had the update, and near the end of a recent meal, we noticed tiny white stuff floating down from above. Not sure what it was. I might prefer the plain old dust.
Maybe soon, Monica! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
The menu has changed recently and not for the better. We won’t be back.
Oh no! Thanks for the honest feedback!
I don’t like the new look. Cracker Barrel has long been a family favorite and a great place to see some real nostalgia. Too bad about the decision to remodel. Our grandchildren will miss seeing those old farm implements and photographs.
Hopefully they will still keep some of the old decor around, just in a different way! Thanks a bunch for chiming in.
From the pictures you show ed above I can tell I don’t like it like the saying goes if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
