Our local church is encouraging us to focus this Holiday Season on something beyond our own family, and to give to those in need this CHRISTmas. They are specifically encouraging us to give to two specific charities here in the North Alabama area: the 8th Street Group Home and our local Prison Ministry, and to focus on a worldwide effort, the Advent Conspiracy.

I LOVE the Advent Conspiracy movement. I’m an Episcopal priest in Huntsville and have grown to really dslike working in Advent and Christmas b/c people in the pews are so distracted with grocery lists, obligatory presents to buy and just plain “surviving” Christmas. Thank you for pointing people to their website and helping us bring back Christmas.

I have to admit I struggle so much with keeping mindful of what’s important this Christmas, so I love that the Advent Conspiracy reminds me that there are people in the world who don’t even have water (much less the eight jillion gifts that we buy each Christmas!)
