Need some organization inspiration? We've got you covered with this craft supply/laundry room re-do!
Organizing on a Budget
Laura, here!Â
Y'all – I have a VERY embarrassing “before” photo to show you.
YIKES.
As you can see, our mudroom/laundry room/craft supply/chaos corner was in dire need of some re-organization! Of course, my dream would be a beautiful built-in shelf with a bench for shoes, cabinets for everything, and an accent wall. But, that's just not realistic for our budget or season of life right now.
In our laundry room, I store all of my craft supplies, materials for sensory activities, quiet time boxes – along with shoes, cleaning supplies, and laundry room items. It can become messy and chaotic so quickly.
Here's how I tamed this room on a budget and made it calming to walk into instead of stressful.
Craft Supply Organization
I grabbed this cube storage shelf from Walmart (I got the 8-cube version, but the 12-cube is on a HUGE drop right now – so worth it!). It was so easy to put together – I assembled it by myself in 30 minutes!
Next, I snagged these organization boxes from Target. Y'all – these are MY FAVORITE THING. You absolutely cannot beat the price for the size and stacking ability. They come in small, medium, and large. I got a variety of sizes so that I could make really specific, organized sections for supplies. I went with clear so that I can see exactly what's in each box without a label or removing the lid, but they also have a solid white version. (I got a couple open bins for the bottom for tall items like coloring books).
Mudroom & Laundry Organization
Does your mudroom or laundry room become a drop-zone for random stuff, too? Please say yes so I can feel better about the before-state of this room! : )
I didn't want a huge, unsightly shoe organizer but we needed something. This little guy is the perfect fit – and holds only enough shoes to keep us accountable. I have our frequently worn shoes here, and others go upstairs. (Note: Right now my kids shoes stay upstairs in their closets, so you may need a big holder if your kids shoes will be here, too!)
I don't have a more hidden place to store my Swiffer and mop so I hung them off the floor. They're functional, and maybe one day I'll have my Pinterest-worthy laundry room with them out of sight!
Finally, a huge difference was made by adding this laundry sorter. We don't separate lights vs darks for laundry, but we often toss in dish towels, kids clothes that got messy downstairs, and cleaning rags. So, they now have their place (before they were in a pile on the floor – yikes!) and I can easily grab them for the laundry.
