Lume Deodorant Review – Our HONEST Opinion

I have ALWAYS had such an issue finding deodorants that work for me. To top it off, I also have very sensitive skin, so I tend to get rashes and irritation from a lot of personal care products.
I was so excited a few years ago to give Lume Deodorant a try and even MORE excited when I found out how well it worked!
After trying nearly every deodorant you can buy in stores (plus alllll of their clinical versions too), crystal deodorants, other natural deodorants (like Native – the scents were good but it just didn’t work well for me)… I was on the verge of talking to my doctor to get something prescription, but then I saw an ad for Lume.
I was spending between $10 and $13 trying every deodorant known to man and also spending extra money on “nice” detergent because of still having scent issues with my non-working deodorant. So I figured I had nothing to lose!
I’m going to be 100% honest – I absolutely LOVE Lume Deodorant.
When I first tried it, the scents weren’t great. Just being truthful….. they didn’t smell…. BAD, but they didn’t exactly smell wonderful either.
(They’ve since done a WHOLE overhaul of their scents which I’ll talk about in a bit!).
But – my oh my, that deodorant did work and it worked SO well!
Lume claims you can go 72 hours in between applications. I’ve never tried going that long, but it definitely does work for at least 24 hours.
Does Lume Stop Sweating?
I am a sweaty Betty and one issue I still had when I originally tried Lume is that I STILL sweat SO MUCH.
So I was SO excited to see they introduced their smooth cream deodorant that is whole body deodorant PLUS sweat control.
I ran SO FAST to grab a set. And I’m happy to report that it DOES in fact help with sweat control.
Lume Sweat Control Scents
Sweat control is now available in both the solid deodorant and in the smooth cream formation (but it really only takes about a pea sized amount).
Sweat control scents are Soft Powder, Clean Tangerine, Lavender Sage, and Unscented. I tried the soft powder and it has a soft baby powder scent. I’m hoping they will soon release it in toasted coconut as that is by FAR (in my opinion!) the best Lume scent.
So…What’s the Best Lume Scent?
I mentioned that when I first bought Lume, the scent wasn’t great. Lume heard customer reviews and recently did a complete overhaul of their scents! I must say, they are MUCH better now and I in fact really enjoy all the updated scents I’ve tried so far.
In my opinion, the BEST Lume scent is toasted coconut. Such great odor control and it reminds me of being on a beach!
There are quite a few other scents too – here’s a ranking of my favorite scents 🙂
- Toasted Coconut -seriously so good!
- Clean Tangerine – this one is fresh but not overpowering
- Minted Cucumber – a light scent
- Sweet Peony – sweet and floral
- Lavender Sage – this one has a more subtle scent – more sage than lavender to me
- Fresh Alpine – like a fresh forest 🙂
- Soft Powder – baby powder fresh!
- Unscented – this one is for those that want all the benefits of odor control but aren’t a fan of scented items

What Makes Lume Different Than Other Whole Body Deodorant?
First off, Lume is cruelty free. It doesn’t use harsh ingredients that can cause rashes or irritate skin (like baking soda or aluminum).
It is also a deodorant that can be used ANYWHERE on your body. Your feet, your stomach, underarms, where your thighs crease – wherever you need a barrier to scent. Lume was developed by a doctor and blocks bacteria from digesting fluids on your skin and prevents body odor from happening in the first place – it doesn’t just cover it up!
I personally recently tried Secret Whole Body Deodorant as I was intrigued by a new product. It didn’t work well for me and it also burned when I put it on – yikes! You might have a different experience, but I’ll definitely be sticking with Lume.
