I have loved the last few days of our Ultimate Grocery Budget Challenge, and hope you have too!
Even though I was determined not to spend at all on groceries this week, a few (tiny?) expenses did pop up. However, I stuck to my goals and didn't go overboard too badly (and spent so much less than if our family had eaten out!)
 Here's what I spent:
- Tuesday – milk and eggs = $1.78 (the eggs were clearanced to 59¢ – I loved that!)
- Wednesday – spaghetti sauce – 99¢
- Total = $2.77
Not too shabby!
Since I was sticking to our no-spend challenge today, we're having Slow Cooker Chicken Enchiladas from the Crock-tober Cookbook (I'd turned these into a freezer meal back in the fall, but they're perfect tonight!)
I realized we were all out of cream of chicken soup, but then remembered I'd made my homemade cream of chicken soup and it was in my cupboards just waiting to be used up.
Success.Â
I can't wait for dinner tonight, and sticking to our no-spend challenge was just a fantastic bonus!
In today's challenge, Erin from $5 Dollar Dinners and Grocery Budget Makeover and I are challenging you to really dig in and find the best prices on things you regularly purchase each week.
You can download two printable worksheets which will help you save a ton, simply by learning what a “stock up price” for things really are, as well as what the every day prices are for common groceries at Aldi, Sam's, Costco, Walmart and Target.
Go HERE to print yours.
I'd also encourage you today to think of FIVE ITEMS this week that you regularly purchase at the store, and commit to memory their typical stock up price.
Here's what my 5 would be in our area:Â
- Boneless, skinless chicken breast – $1.49/lb or less (remember Zaycon has it today for just 99¢ if you're a new Zaycon user and use the code WELCOME99 at checkout – that's an incredible stock up price!)Â
- Milk – $1.19 – $1.99 per gallon (milk is priced VERY low right now at our local stores ~ I know this one varies a LOT by area!)
- Apples – $.99/lb
- Strawberries – $.99 per pint
- Peanut butter – $.99 per 18 oz jar
These are just five things that we purchase all the time, so I try to stock up as much as I can when I see them at that price. Having those numbers in my head helps make shopping easier, so that I don't have to question whether or not I'm getting a good deal ~ I'd love to hear your list too!
