Guess what my husband and son spent an hour working on today? Counting change! And it turns out that they had a whopping $270 in change that my husband has been saving for about the last year. WOOOHOOO!!!!!
I have to confess, I'm not a huge proponent of the saving your change method (because I usually try to hang onto every single penny to stretch my grocery budget. . . ), but I'm thinking they just proved me wrong. (That's like two nights in a hotel room . . . yayyyyyy!) So, if you haven't started hanging on to your change it just might add up to a little nice savings over time. They were pretty happy as they headed off to the bank today, and my husband even gave my son a $10 bonus for sticking with the counting when his sisters both left to go play. Happy happy happy indeed. 😉
At the end of the day, we throw our change in a jar! This is how we take vacation!
Love that Colene!!! 🙂
I save my change as well. What was saved, paid for our gas to the beach.
I clean out my purses and then put my change in a holder to save for eating out on a night when I just can't deal with cooking.
When my kids were younger, my husband and I saved up all change and when we had enough, purchased savings bonds at the bank for them. They have earned great interest over the years! Even though both kids are now grown, I still save my change and after about a year I'll "roll" it all and we use for a little extra on trips to visit family!
Love that Jennie – thanks so much for sharing!
I used the Coinstar machine at my local Kroger a few weeks ago. If you get the e-certificate (I chose amazon.com) then it doesn’t charge a fee. Over $100 to spend online and it didn’t take hours of counting change and then lugging it to the bank. Definitely worth it and took very little time!
Funny! We did the same thing today. Except, we went to TD Bank, they have the FREE “kiddie counter” for account holders. Put $110 in my daughters account- and she had fun putting all the coins in the machine. Great way to get a 2 and 1/2 year old excited about saving! They also told me about their summer reading program, you read ten books and record them, they will deposit $10 in the custodial account!

Look on SweetJack.com for your area and you may score half price hotels, eats, and activities. One of my favorite restaurants had a deal and I got $40 gift cert for $20. 🙂
