Supplies needed
When make your next Dollar Tree run, look for these supplies:
- Plastic Snow Globes
- Faux snow (I used a different material of “snow” for each globe. i.e. foam balls, vase filler)
- Glue gun
- Fillers (This could be anything from village people, gift cards, photos, tinsel, bottle brush trees, bells, candy etc.)
- Ribbon, tinsel, washi tape, stickers, etc. (for decorating the outside)
You can grab these empty snow globes online!
You need to order a minimum of 24 globes if you order online, but it would be a great craft to do with a group like bible study, youth group, moms group, and more!
How to Make These Sweet Snow Globes
I decided to start with a simple snow globe that featured the village people you can find at The Dollar Store.
- I used hot glue to glue the little figurines and bottle brush trees to the “bottom” or lid of the snow globe.
- Next, I poured the small foam balls into the globe to look like snow, and put on the lid with the figurines glued to it.
- I wanted to decorate the bottom of the snow globe with the ribbon I purchased at Dollar Tree. So, I cut a piece of ribbon and glued it all around the “lid” of the globe.
- I added a snowflake foam sticker as a finishing touch!
The second snow globe I made was a little more personal. I had the cutest picture of my kids in their Christmas jammies that I wanted to turn into a snow globe!
- I cut my Christmas photo so that it would fit inside the snow globe. I had to fit it inside and trim it a couple of times so that it would stand upright in the globe and not be bent.
- I then glued two bottle brush trees near the inside edge of the lid to go behind the photo. This helps decorate the back of the globe and it also helps hold up the photo.
- Next, I glued the photo in place, so that it will stand upright, and I added another little bottle brush tree in the front.
- I poured some faux snow into the globe and put on the lid with the photo and trees glued to it.
- I wanted to decorate the bottom of the snow globe with the ribbon I purchased at Dollar Tree. So I cut a piece of ribbon and glued it all around the “lid” of the globe. I also added a little bow!
I customized my last snow globe by turning it into a gift card holder! This would be perfect for teachers or neighbor gifts!
- I used hot glue to glue one bottle brush tree to the “bottom” or lid of the snow globe.
- Then I set the gift card inside the globe in front of the tree. (You don’t want to glue this down because you want the gift recipient to be able to get the gift card out.)
- I used “Glitter Vase Filler” from The Dollar Tree as the “snow” because I didn’t want it to be too messy for the gift recipient when they get the gift card out.
- After I closed up the snow globe, I decided to decorate the outside with tinsel. I used my hot glue gun to glue that all around the lid.
These look so sweet nestled into my tree or sitting with my decor. You could definitely turn these into traditional ornaments by gluing ribbon to the very top of the globe.
These snow globes turned out to be so easy to make and so cute! You can customize them in so many different ways!
