Congratulations Stephanie!

I’m so excited about this week’s giveaway! Sam’s Club, Chex Mix & My Blog Spark are giving away a gift pack to one lucky Passionate Penny Pincher reader which includes . . .
  • A $25 Sam’s Club Gift Card
  • One (GIANT!) box of Chex Mix from Sam’s Club includes a bag of Corn, Wheat & Rice Chex

Sam’s Club & Chex Mix would love to help you host a fun Christmas Party Mix-Exchange, where you can swing by Sam’s to pick up all your basic supplies and enjoy an easy get-together with friends and Chex Mix this Christmas.

We love Chex Mix at our house, and decided to try out their yummy recipe (the one found right on the box. . .) for Chex Mix Muddy Buddies. They were delicious! We also stopped by Sam’s to pick up a few pantry staples (as always, I love their prices on milk, produce, and baking supplies: they have great everyday prices on items like vanilla, flour, sugar, and even yeast!)

Here’s what you’ll need to make some yummy Muddy Buddy Chex Mix in your home . . .

Muddy Buddy Chex Mix

Ingredients

  1. cups Corn Chex®, Rice Chex®, Wheat Chex® or Chocolate Chex® cereal (or combination) we used Rice Chex
  2. 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  3. 1/2 cup peanut butter
  4. 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  5. 1 teaspoon vanilla
  6. 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

Directions

  1. Melt chocolate chips, peanut butter & butter on high for one minute, stir.
  2. Microwave another 30 seconds (or more) until mixture is smooth when stirred.
  3. Add vanilla.
  4. Place cereal in large bowl.
  5. Pour chocolate mixture over cereal, stirring until well coated (but be careful not to crush the cereal!)
  6. Add cereal & chocolate mixture to large plastic bag (2 gallon or larger is best)
  7. Then add powdered sugar and shake until cereal is completely covered.
  8. Enjoy!

  4. Amy says

I just made some of the original recipe chex mix last week, it’s my favorite, but I do add more butter and garlic than the recipe calls for.

I saw a recipe on pinterest the other day for lemon buddies! Haven’t tried it yet, but I love lemon.

  6. Krista says

Definitely Puppy Chow! Which is just the northern name for Muddy Buddy Mix. 🙂 Follow on FB and email.

  7. Amy says

Chex is a favorite cereal of ours because it is gluten free.

  11. Kelly says

Puppy Chow is a family favorite. I stocked up on Chex cereal and choc chips around Thanksgiving so I will be making it a lot.

  12. Heather says

My favorite is definitely the traditional chex mix. My grandmother made it every year at Christmas and we each got a jar. Luckily I have her recipe 🙂

  13. Theresa says

Oh I LOVE the Muddy Buddies mix recipe! I made some last year and put in Christmas containers from the dollar tree and handed them out to the many teachers, aides and therapists that work with my kiddos!

  14. Jennifer B. says

As a couple other people have mentioned, Muddy Buddies are also known as Puppy Chow and that’s my absolute favorite Chex recipe, although the Traditional Chex Mix is a great one too. (I just don’t care for the nuts or pretzels in it.)

  15. Denise says

I have not made chex mix at home, but the muddy buddies sound really good. I might just have to give them a try.

  16. Megan says

I love the classic muddy buddys recipe (in MN though, we call it puppy chow…don’t ask me why because I don’t know, thats just what we all call it).
