Starbucks just updated its Rewards program — and one small change (like the new Double Stars rule for reusable cups) could make a bigger difference than you think. Here’s what to know before your next coffee run.
Starbucks Rewards Is Changing: Here’s What You Need to Know
Calling all Starbucks fans! Starbucks is officially shaking things up with a refreshed Rewards program, and the changes roll out starting March 10th. Members can expect new status levels, upgraded perks, and new ways to earn and redeem Stars.
Don’t worry though – while there are some notable updates, many of the Rewards benefits you already love are sticking around. Your starting status will be revealed on March 10th, based on your 2025 Starbucks Rewards activity, and your benefits will be available immediately.
Here’s a quick, easy breakdown of what’s changing (and what’s not)…
⭐ What’s New With Starbucks Rewards?
Starbucks is introducing three new Rewards status levels, designed to better match how often you visit and how you like to enjoy your coffee:
- Green
- Gold
- Reserve
Each tier unlocks different perks, so your Rewards experience feels more personalized. According to Starbucks, these updates were inspired directly by customer feedback – and the higher your tier, the more flexibility and bonuses you’ll see.
Gold and Reserve members will score extra perks like more time to redeem your free Birthday reward (7 to 30 days), plus additional surprises throughout the year. YAY!!
⭐ Changes to Earning & Redeeming Stars
Another major update? Your status level now affects how quickly you earn Stars. Reserve members earn Stars the fastest, while Green and Gold members earn at different rates.
Redemption is changing too – rewards will now be capped at a dollar amount. For example:
- 25 Stars: Up to $1 (drink customization)
- NEW 60 Stars: Up to $2 off any item
- 100 Stars: Up to $6 (brewed coffee or bakery items)
- 200 Stars: Up to $10 (handcrafted drinks and hot breakfast)
- 300 Stars: Up to 16 (lunch sandwich, protein box, or at-home coffee)
- 400 Stars: Up to $20 (Starbucks merchandise)
- Reserve members earn Stars the fastest
- Green and Gold members earn at adjusted rates
This new system helps set clearer expectations so you know exactly what your Stars can cover when it’s time to redeem.
Starbucks also shared that they’re focused on giving members more flexibility, including fun new perks like “Free Mod Mondays”, which gives you one free drink customization each month (hello extra cold foam! 😀 ).
⭐ What’s NOT Changing?
The good news? Many of the most-loved Starbucks Rewards perks aren’t going anywhere. You’ll still enjoy:
- Your current Star balance (nothing resets!)
- Your free Birthday treat
- Personalized Bonus Star offers
- Double Stars when you bring a personal cup
- Access to exclusive games and promotions
Overall, the updated Starbucks Rewards program focuses on more choices, better personalization, and bigger perks for loyal customers. Whether you’re an occasional coffee stop or a daily latte regular, there’s a tier designed to fit your routine.
We’ll continue watching for additional updates as Starbucks rolls out the full program … so stay tuned!
