PPP team member Misty here! 🙂
Since we're having so much more time at home these days, I've been trying to tackle some of the projects around my house that I never seem to have time to get done. One of the projects I was most excited about was updating our family photo wall.
I got some great photo ledge shelves for Christmas, but I didn't want to hang them until I could add fresh paint to the wall, which also meant painting my entire front entry area! Fortunately, I had already bought the paint so it was just waiting on me to start.
This Kiera Grace Edge Wall Ledge Shelf 2-piece Set from Kohl's is what I used (2 sets), and right now you can get a great deal on them!

Hanging the shelves was the most challenging part of the project! I decided to stagger them to add a little more dimension and variety of frame placement. Plus, trying to hang 2 shelves perfectly level and even was giving me a headache!
I decided on the vertical space between the shelves by measuring the height of my larger frames. Right now I'm using all my old frames, but once I can go shopping again, I may replace some for a more cohesive look.
The shelves I used have 3 keyhole style hangers on the back so that the screws can be hidden. This is perfect if you can match them up with your wall studs, but mine didn't work out that way. 🙁 I really wanted all of my screws in the studs and didn't want to use wall anchors, so I decided to mark the studs and just screw from the front of the shelves into the stud. The screws show this way but since my shelves are full you don't see them behind the photos.
I would definitely recommend having a helper to hang these shelves! Having my teenagers being home really came in handy for this part. 🙂
I had also bought the unfinished words from The Rustic Deer on Jane.com a few months ago and just used leftover black craft paint to finish them! They are hung with Command strips.
Here's where we started . . .
And here's the finished project.
If you've got a wall that needs some fluffing but are overwhelmed with where to start, this is was a great way to easily add frames that you can swap in and out as you need to. Head on over HERE to check out the ledges at Kohl's while they're on sale, and happy frugal fluffing!
Very nice! Thank you for sharing! What color did you paint your walls?
You’re so welcome Kat! The walls are painted with Sherwin Williams colors Sea Salt (in the dining room and girls’ bathroom) and Rice Grain (in the kitchen and breakfast room) ~ hope that helps! 🙂
Thank you!!
