Trick or Treat! Jack O Lantern Brownies

Need a quick fun treat for an upcoming Halloween party?  Well this is super easy, super cheap, and a yummy activity to make with your kiddos.  My little girl and I made it in less than an hour today, and we had so much fun making it together (but we’ll be taking it somewhere else . . . you can imagine the sugar high around our house right now!)

Here’s what you’ll need . . .

Mix brownie mix according to package directions . . .

Put about 3/4 of the brownie mixture into round pizza plate (just make sure not to use too much because it’ll get all over your oven!  We have a super-sized cake pan that’s the same diameter as a pizza pan and worked great, but you should be okay with just the pizza plate!)  Be sure to lick any excess brownie batter 🙂 . . .

Bake brownies according to package directions, except shorten baking time (ours cooked for about 20 minutes at 350 in regular pan – not a non-stick or dark colored pan).  Once brownies are baked and cooled, mix together icing and orange food coloring to pumpkin color, and decorate with tootsie rolls & candy corn. . .

Orange Food Coloring

Mix together brownie mix.   Spread about 3/4 of brownie mix onto round pizza pan (if you use more it might get all over your oven!)  Discard the rest of the batter (or bake in smaller pan if you don’t want to waste any!)  🙂  Cool completely.  Add food coloring to icing until it’s jack-o-lantern orange.  Frost brownie, then use tootsie rolls & candy corn to decorate.  (The tootsie rolls are very malleable – I was able to roll them almost like play dough once I kind of warmed them up my rolling them in my hands!  As you can probably tell I didn’t figure that one out until have making our Jack-O-Lantern’s eyes.)  Enjoy!

  1. Great idea, but SUPER CUTE assistant you got there!!!!

  2. Can you tell she loves being in front of the camera? (It’s all I can do to keep her out of any photos I take!) 🙂

  3. Why would you want to keep that assistant out of the pictures? : ) We don’t mind. Brings a smile to our faces and warms our hearts to see a little one helping in the kitchen or with shopping.

  4. I love this! Reagan looks like a big girl now!
