Toilet Paper Prices: How To Really Know If You’re Getting A Good Deal

Okie dokie guys, I ran to Walgreens today to check out a few deals, and happened to notice a few toilet paper prices worth checking out. Because I had my handy dandy phone with me (which includes a calculator. . .) I decided to do a little math and find out what’s *really* the best deal. As it turns out, the item promoted in the ad is NOT the best sale at Walgreens this week, so it’s always worth doing your math! Here’s a peek . . .

Sale Ad “Best” Deal:

Buy 1 Charmin Ultra Soft $3.49 (125.2 square feet per roll)

  • Use $0.25/1 Charmin Product, exp. 6/30/13 (P&G 05/12/13)
  • Pay $3.24 out of pocket
  • IF you purchase five (which would earn 3000 Balance Rewards Points) your price per square foot = $.0214 per square foot

Better Deal:

Buy 1 Cottonelle $5 (193.2 square feet per roll)

  • Use $0.50 off Cottonelle Toilet Paper, exp. 6/22/13 (SS 05/12/13 R)
  • Stack with $1/1 Cottonelle coupon found in Walgreens May coupon booklet (look for it in the front of the store)
  • Pay $3.50 out of pocket (don’t have to worry with Balance Rewards)
  • Your price per square foot = $.0181 per square foot

BEST Deal (the one not on sale at all!):

Buy 1 Angel Soft Toilet Paper $3.99

  • Use $0.45/1 Angel Soft Item, exp. 6/5/13 (RP 05/05/13) or $.25/1 Angel Soft
  • Pay $3.44 out of pocket
  • Your price per square foot = $.0173 per square foot

And just for fun, I compared the price at the Dollar Tree, and here’s how it works out:

Buy 1 4-pack toilet paper at the Dollar Tree $1 (81.7 square feet ~ not a name brand)

  • Pay $1 out of pocket
  • Your price per square foot = $.012

While the Dollar Tree price is clearly the winner, I’m not so sure I can guarantee the quality on that one. 😉

The moral of the story? Do the math and know your best price if you always want to get the best deal! To figure out the math on these, you just divide the number of square feet by the price of the toilet paper. In general, my target price is less than $.02 per square foot, so these are all great deals!
