While we were on vacation I was so tempted to grab a FIVE DOLLAR Lemon Shake Up, but I just couldn't make myself pay five dollars for a little sugar water and some lemon!Â
Well today in North Alabama it is soooooooooo hot, so while my hubby was mowing I fixed him up a homemade Lemon Shake Up – that cost me just over $.50. That's a NINETY PERCENT SAVINGS – crazy! So if you're home and needing a little break from the heat, try this one out. Here's what you'll need for each shake up. . .
1 lemon (on sale $.50 each at Publix)
1 cup crushed ice
1 cup water
3 tablespoons sugar
Wash lemon well. Put ice in large cup (I used a 16 oz. cup – make sure you have another one the same size for your shaking!) Cut lemon in half and squeeze all juice out of lemon into small bowl, discard seeds. You can also get the lemon pulp out using a fork, and then pour lemon juice and pulp into ice.
Add water, sugar, and what's left of your lemon, top with other cup and SHAKE! (I was horrible at this – so I just kind of shook the bottom cup and used a spoon to mix up the rest!) Add any additional sugar to taste. Pour into pretty glass and serve. Happy Saturday!
