We make some at our house because we love them, and some are made for the fun of making them! Well lucky for us, these were both fun to make and yummy . . . a fabulous rainy day activity and treat all rolled into one! And since Publix was sweet enough to put most of the items you'll need on sale, I figured you might enjoy making them with your kiddos too 🙂
Here's what you'll need . . .
6 cups Chocolate Rice Krispies you can substitute with regular Rice Krispies; BOGO $3.99, use $1.50/2 Kellogg’s Cereals , $1/2 Kellogg’s Rice Krispies or Cocoa Krispies ,$1/3 Kellogg’s Cereals 10/17/2010 RP Insert (exp 11/28/2010) ,$1/2 Kellogg’s Rice Krispies or Cocoa Krispies Cereals 10/17/2010 RP Insert (exp 11/28/2010)
1 (10 oz.) bag marshmallows
3 tablespoons margarine or butter I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter Spread BOGO $2.49
1 small bag M&M's
1 bag candy corn
Frosting if you're like me and out of frosting (*GASP*), you can just mix together powdered sugar and a little milk to make a gluey paste (and then be sure to check out the frosting deal at Kroger!), Use $.50/1 Cake Mix & Betty Crocker Frosting HERE, HERE or HERE
Melt margarine or butter over low heat on stovetop, then add in marshmallows and stir until melted, stirring constantly. (Be careful to melt over LOW HEAT. . . I've ruined many a Rice Krispie Treat by trying to hurry them along which makes the Rice-Krispy-goo harden. . . not a good thing!) When your marshmallows are melted, remove from heat, and add in Rice Krispies. Let cool for a few minutes. Spray hands with lots of Pam (I know, gross!) and then mold Rice Krispy mixture into balls. (If you know how to make a snowball, you should be ready to go with these!) Press balls really tightly together to get all the air out, then let cool in refrigerator for about 15 minutes. Use frosting to attach ears, nose, eyes, and whiskers, and enjoy! (These are best eaten within 24 hours).
Here are my kids (plus a friend!) making theirs. . . Can you guess which one my three year old made? Recipe adapted from Rice Krispies Recipes , go HERE to see more Rice Krispy Halloween ideas!
