That basket however, has a ton of blooms, which would have cost a fortune! So, here's what I did to create a more penny–pinched version for our front door:
- Instead of using so many flowers (even though I think they're absolutely beautiful!), I chose three large blooms for the base of the arrangement.
- To fill in the background, I skipped the single blooms that can be so pricey, and went for the larger bushes. Then I just divided them insto smaller clumps to fill out the back of the arrangement.
- If you can, re-use an old container! I bought this one (because I didn't have anything black for my front door!), but will definitely re-use it again.
- While you can find arrangements on sale that are pre-made, it's easy to make them yourself, and you'll get just what you want! I literally walked through Hobby Lobby (where flowers were 50% off), and created the arrangement as I walked through the store.
The flowers for the arrangement cost $22.95, so not too bad for a new look on my front door! However, my husband's afraid that a few of our feathered friends may decide to nest in the arrangement, so do you have any great ideas on how to keep birds out of pots outside? (Last year a momma bird nested in one of our hanging baskets out back, and while we loved watching her, I'll be scared to death if I open my front door and a bird flies in the house!)
