My friend Kim made this adorable lamb cake last spring for her Easter egg hunt and pointed out that this was a great week to stockpile these deals. I know it's hard to even think about stockpiling for Easter (especially with Thanksgiving right around the corner!), but the deals on Sara Lee this week are as good as they get, and with the cheap marshmallows and last week's free frosting, you'll spend hardly anything for one really cute cake! I also thought you could make a Christmas “ginger-cake house” using an iced Sara Lee pound cake topped with two graham crackers for the roof, and marshmallows for the snow. You could decorate with leftover Halloween candy and your kids might be occupied for 20 minutes (if you're lucky)! Here's the stockpile list with sales, and hopefully I'll remember to post it again this spring!
Lamb Cake (I know, it’s Thanksgiving, right?)
2 16 oz. family sized frozen pound cakes (Sara Lee Desserts 50% off, $1/1 PRINT or $1/1 Publix Winter Family Savings)
2 16 oz. tubs white frosting (Duncan Hines Frosting,2/$3 – $1/2; $.55/2 from 10-11-09 SS; in case you didn't get free frosting last week!)
1 bag mini marshmallows (Kraft Jet-Puffed Marshmallows Miniature$1.19, look for $.50/2 Tearpad & $.50/1 Tearpad – I couldn't find the tearpads in my store, but Kroger had their marshmallows on sale for $.88)
If you're new to the whole idea of stockpiling, take a minute to read more HERE. I'm amazed at how much I save in our budget by simply stockpiling, so you might want to try it out if you haven't already. Thanks Kim for the great idea, and have a great Saturday!
(The recipe is from the April 2007 Family Fun magazine. I couldn't find the article online, so if you make this picture larger you should be able to see how they molded the cute lamb. Good luck!)
