Oh man! I wish I would have watched this video and/or read these replies before I bought a pitter. I love Publix cherries but hate dealing with pits. So I finally just broke down and paid a fortune for one. Ugh…
They are $5.99 at Publix. (The pitter)
Just watched your video and realized that you did it a hard way. You would only need to open your paper clip enough to have one straight end. use the other end and insert it into the top of the cherry and it pulls the pit right out. Does not take long at all. I am sorry that I did not give you clear instructions. Happy pitting!
Thanks Beverly! It really wasn’t hard, but a little more time consuming than I expected 🙂 I gotta try it again (although I might try the potato peeler idea!)
My family and I live very close to the “Cherry Capital”, Traverse City, MI and my mom has always used the pointed end of a potato peeler to pit cherries. You just use it like you’re going to take an eye out of a potato and scoop the pit out. It takes a couple of seconds per cherry. Hope that helps you pit cherries faster if you don’t want to buy a pitter.
That’s a great idea! I may need to try it and re-do the video . . . 🙂
