Remember my office re-do that I shared a few weeks ago? Well after spending way too many pennies on those beautiful bookshelves (which I absolutely adore . . . ) I knew there was no way I could spend big bucks on pictures to decorate the walls. But with Easter is right around the corner (and my husband's family all visiting for the first time in years), I'm working on getting our home looking it's very best ~ even while on a budget.
I have several little projects I'll be sharing as I get ready, but I'm thinking this will be one of my favorites. I absolutely love the look of these plates on the wall, but I'm not courageous enough enough to put that many holes in my wall. . . I'm horrible at figuring out how to hang things correctly!
So, after walking up and down the aisles at Old Time Pottery, it finally dawned on me that I could use shelves instead, and I'm so excited because I'll be able to change out what's there seasonally. Love it!
Take a peek . . .
Here's the cost breakdown:
- two shelves $16.99 each
- 3 plates $1.99 each
- 1 picture frame (I already had the smaller one) $7.99
- fabric for inside the larger picture frame $3.50 (it was a remnant, and I think there's enough there to recover my dining room cushions too . . . woot!)
- “h” initial $3.99
- “Keep Calm” canvas $4.99 (not sure I love it, but couldn't beat the price!)
- plate holders $6
- Total: $66.42
And by the way, I hung those little shelves {with anchors} all. by. my. self. (Applause please!)
But . . . . . if my sweet husband ever removes them I had absolutely nothing to do with it (and will blame any damage done on the kids.) Ummmm. . . thirteen {large} holes later those suckers are there to stay.
Have you done any fluffing up in your home lately? I'd love to hear about it! And take a minute to join me over on Pinterest (I love that place . . .)

They’re too high and don’t fill up the wall. Need at least one more.
Since we’ve moved from there Mickey I’ll have to do that in our new home!:)
Love your couch, where do is it from?
Love the floating shelves! That is the only safe place in our home for ‘pretty things’ – as my kids like to call them.
I love the color of your walls. Your living room looks great!
Where you live in columbus?just curious….do you live in newalbany….that's one of my dream place.i love your house….the layout…….
Hi Anu! This actually was a picture from my old house in Alabama 🙂 We live in between Lewis Center and Powell (we looked at New Albany – it was beautiful there but the lots were so expensive and so tiny!) We do love where we’re at here – such a pretty area 🙂
The selves look great, I have similar shelves we purchased at Lowe’s and Home De Pot not very expensive at al.
Thanks Sharon – I was so pleased with it (it’s amazing what just a few changes can do!)
Love it! So simple, yet elegant. I love the simplicity of the white plates.
Thanks Bonnie and Marion! I really do love it too 😉
I like it, so creative and added depth to the wall.
Your wall color is the same as most of my condo, varying shades of light green, the perfect neutral. Just like in nature, always fresh!
Love it! Where did you get the Keep Calm sign?
Old Time Pottery!
I hung a shelf over my couch and love it too!

Looks fantastic Cindy ~ thanks so much for sharing!!!
Where did you buy your sofa, shelves and plate stands?
I found the sofa at a local furniture store, but the shelves and plate stands are all from Old Time Pottery. Hope that helps Dawn! 🙂
Love those white plates! Everything looks so crisp and clean.
Thanks Kalyn! I couldn’t believe what a difference a few little plates did – and was so glad to find them all in one spot. Now I want to get rid of my kitchen plates for all white! 🙂
It looks great!! I love the color on the walls, any chance you remember the paint color? We just moved into a new house, a whole big fat project 🙂
Hi Robin! I’ve had so many questions about that – it’s Benjamin Moore Hollingsworth Green. I paid extra to get their “aura” brand, which was completely worth it because we went from very dark red and gold to that color in just one coat! You can see more pics of the color here ~

Good luck with your new home – so much fun but definitely a lot of work! 🙂
Wow that really changed the whole look of the room! Love Love Love this!!!
Thanks so much Kelsey – I didn’t realize how plain it looked until I took the pictures… I’m so much happier with it now! 🙂
