If you missed my FB live you can watch it HERE.
If you're like me and didn't order a pair of Solar Eclipse glasses (eek!) here's a penny pinched way to make a Solar Eclipse Viewing Box for free at home!
Here's what you need:
- scissors
- white paper cut to the size of the bottom of the cereal box
- cereal box
- straight pin or thumbtack
- tape
- aluminum foil
How to make it (also, watch video here around minute 2:45):
- Cut paper to fit in the bottom of the box, tape in place (this creates your “screen”.)
- Cut a small square on the right and left hand side of the box at the top of the box.
- Place aluminum foil on one side of box and tape down to secure.
- Using thumbtack or straight pin, make a small hole in the aluminum foil (the smaller the pin hole, the more clear the view will be.)
To view, stand outside WITH SUN BEHIND YOU. The goal is to have the sun go through the pin hole and project itself onto the white paper while you look through the opening in the box. To “practice” stand with a light overhead (I used the light above our oven), and you can see how the light will project through that pinhole onto the paper so that you can watch it become dark when the moon is in front of the sun.
Let me know if it works for you!
