Five Minute Challenge: The Kids Clothes Take Over

Because my poor kids drawers are a disaster thanks to the crazy is-it-spring-or-is-it-winter weather we have right now in Alabama, I decided to forego the laundry room clean out and spend this week cleaning out a few drawers.

I just couldn’t take it any longer. (Eek!)

I spent a bit longer than five minute (ummmm . . . maybe 45 minutes instead?) but hopefully this will encourage you also to take a few minutes this week and tackle that oh-so-overwhelming job in your home. Here’s how it looked when I started (after dumping out the top two drawers.)

UGH!!! But I turned on my free Dave Ramsey App, grabbed a Diet Coke, and set to work. After just forty minutes, things were looking so much better . . .

And here’s what will be heading off to donate, consign, or to the trash can. (If you consign clothes, I highly recommend going ahead and putting them on hangers at the end of each season – it makes them so much more manageable to just tag them when the next sale comes up!)

Your turn now! Do you have a few drawers or closets in your home that could use some serious attention? Head on over and get to work . . . and let me know how it goes. Take even just five minutes and see what you can accomplish, and I’d love to hear how many bags you can fill up!

When you comment on any of this week’s five minute challenge posts, you’ll be entered to win a $10 Amazon Gift Card. (I’ll pick one lucky winner each Friday night.) So, hurry and get to work for at least five minutes, then come back here and let me know how it went!

Do you know an unique cleaning tips? I’d love to hear them! Leave a comment to share those too . . . I’m always looking for new ideas. See previous five minute challenges.

  5. Well it took more than five minutes but I cleaned out the clothes I was saving for crafting and I cleaned out the clothes for consignment and I sorted through the clothes for spring. When all was said and done I listed $385 worth of clothes in one consignment sale probably have $200 to list at another consigment sale and I got rid of two garbage bags of junk. Wooooo hooooo.

  6. Patti Healy says:

I always clean my girls dresser drawers every summer and Christmas vacation. It’s a great time to donate and the kids are home to help out.

  7. I did this to my husbands dresser and my 22 month old husband still has clothes back from HIGHSCHOOL and hes 23… my daughters 18 month clothes were still in her dresser..filled up a tote with them both combined!!!!!

    • Oh Ashley… I can beat that! My husband who’s a whopping 42 (and much older than me I might add…) still has clothes from high school hiding in the closet. I refuse to acknowledge they’re still there! πŸ™‚

  8. Jennifer Appleton says:

Um… YES! I need to do my own drawers AND closet! haha… I’ve put on some weight in the last year due to sickness/inability to exercise. So I have my bigger clothes and my smaller clothes ALL in my drawers, etc… I’m getting back to the gym this week. As things get too big, I’ll put them into bins for storage. So it’ll be a slow process for me! For the last month, I’ve been doing 5-10 minute clean out of different areas, finding things to donate/sell.

  9. I cleaned out Stacis closet just the other day. Amazing how much she has yet she wears the same clothes everyday! Lol!

  10. Next….closets! πŸ™‚

  11. Inspired to try one drawer at a time!

  12. Ah, Diet Coke. Good choice of motivational beverage, Laurie πŸ™‚

Our church is taking a collection of food and clothing this weekend, so I spent last Sunday afternoon going through my clothes and pantry. I came up with a bagful of each to donate and love being able to give away what I’ve been given!

    • I’m pretty sure I could accomplish just about anything if given a diet coke! πŸ™‚ Love that you were able to clean out so much…. it’s amazing how easily things add up!

  13. Much more the 5 minutes but it needed it

  14. Jennifer says:

    Ahh so much better! Thx

  15. Yesterday I finished cleaning out our upstairs hall closet and tackled the linen closet and cabinets in the boys bathroom upstairs today! So much better…now to work on the little one’s room!

  16. Laura Lenau says:

I wound up doing my son’s entire closet and dresser because he still had 6-9mo clothing in there, but he’s currently wearing 2T! It probably took about a half hour or so, but now that it’s done I (and my husband) can finally find clothes that fit our son without needing a machete to hack through the mess. Not sure why it took so long for me to finally do this. I guess I just needed some motivation πŸ™‚ Thanks!

  17. Ugh, the sock drawer! Why must you torture me so?! lol
