If you've never made monkey bread before, this is a super easy recipe to try out and SOOOOO cheap. My kids LOVE it, and it's a great special treat on a day they're home from school (like this morning!) I remember watching Cindy Crawford (at least I think it was Cindy Crawford, or one of those super models!) on the Today Show years ago give a recipe similar to this, and it cracked me up because she said her family called it Monkey Bread because they “ate it like monkeys”. Can you imagine Cindy Crawford eating anything like a monkey? Well, my kiddos really do eat it like monkeys, and I'm betting yours will too. Here's what you'll need . . .
2 cans canned biscuits (cheap ones – they usually come 4 to a pack)
1/2 cup white sugar
3/4 stick margarine
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 tsp. cinnamon
Grease bundt pan. Combine white sugar and 1/2 teaspoon and put in Ziploc bag (you could also use plastic container, just something you can shake the biscuits up in). Cut biscuits into quarters (I let my kids cut them with scissors). Put a handful of biscuits into plastic bag and shake up, then place into greased bundt pan. Repeat until all biscuits are covered with cinnamon sugar mixture.
Put margarine, brown sugar and remaining cinnamon (1 1/2 teaspoons) in pan on stove and boil for 2 minutes. Pour over biscuits and bake at 350 for 15 minutes. Cool 10 minutes and turn out on plate. YUMMMMMMMMM!
Note – be careful not to burn the margarine/brown sugar mixture by cooking longer than 2 minutes (like I did this morning) – it still tastes good but definitely has a slightly charred flavor!
