This one is a DYI project , we are a couponer family , everyone loves coupons, my father in law loves his toothpaste coupons, anyway, we are coming up with our own coupon insert instead of Smartsource we are calling it DadSource, the coupon I think he is gonna love the most is the All you can watch TV coupon since he always wants to watch sports and the grand kids won’t let him. We are putting the insert inside the newspaper on Christmas morning.

Every year my kids and I get my husband a toy that he never had as a child! Its fun to watch his reaction and see him enjoy something that he always wanted or even just a simple toy that he never had that I have mentioned playing when I was little and he did not. The first year we were together I bought him Candy land.

Gift of the Month Clubs–great for those hard to shop for dads, in-laws, grandparents! Can do in 3 month, 6 month, 9 month or yearly subscriptions. There are SO many out there to price from and so many products to choose from: coffee, deserts, jerkey, jams, pies, beers, pasta, etc. Depending on how you choose your subscription, your recipient can receive a new shipment that many last up to a year. I have received two years’ worth of coffee, one on a month-to-month and one every-other-month and it lasted me 18+ months between the two! Great gift and well worth the money! I loved this and think its a great idea for those hard to shop for people on your list!

Listening to his iPod is also his favorite way to relax while he is having some well deserved time for himself. I want to surprise him with some new music on Christmas Day to listen to until I can get him some more for Father’s Day.

Grind and Brew coffee pot – love the one we had but it just broke so a new one is on the list. Godd whole bean coffee
And finally, consumables, of course. A favorite is spices, there are a few that are rather expensive, and it’s a treat to get a bottle of cardamon, or a couple vanilla beans, and there are others that are just lovely but a bit unusual, like smoked paprika and garam masala from a real Indian market. If I travel that year, I keep my eye out for spice blends that are regional to where I am, to bring a little of my travels to my family.
I’m a bit of a sewer, so in other years I have made the dads double-thick fleece blankets for curling up under while they’re at the computer. There are so many prints out there now, it’s easy to find something that matches their interests and personality.
I don’t do the new-sew kind, all the fringe would get in the way and even be dangerous with all the electrical cords. It’s really simple to bind fleece into a basic quilt, they even make wide seam binding out of fleece, so it’s an hour project even for a novice sewer, just get a couple yards of two kinds of fleece (make sure the widths are basically the same), lay them down wrong sides together and trim so that they’re even and the corners are slightly rounded, then pin your seam binding on and sew.
I have a request in from my father-in-law for a fleece robe, that I won’t get to this year, but maybe next year.
I get your emails!

I love photo gifts and lotto tickets!
Slippers, my Dad loves slippers!!! I’m also subscribed to emails, I’m a Facebook fan, and I invited a friend to join.
My father-in-law is a big sci-fi reader, so a few years ago we asked him for a list of books that he wished he had in his library that are hard to find, usually stuff from the 70s that is long out of print. I take the list with me and scour used book stores, and also check online, and try to get a couple books off this list for him every year.
My dad is a big coffee drinker, so I always get him a pound or two of really good stuff, like real Kona and Jamaican Blue Mountain, whole bean. He nurses those along for months, usually he can make it from Christmas until Father’s Day when he gets a new delivery.
Like a lot of people, things personalized with pictures are a favorite dad-gift. This year I got ‘Magic Mugs’ from York, because I thought the way the photos appear with hot liquid was an extra ‘cool’ factor the dads would enjoy.
I usually get something consumable for my dad. Golf balls and tees for his golfing habit or specialty jellies for his biscuits.
He likes flashlights and knives.
