I’ve just about had it with the amount of clutter that seems to be running my home for the last few weeks, so I finally decided to take control! After picking up after not one, two, or even three kids, but rather three kids + one grown adult (ahem), I’ve finally had enough.
So, I decided to grab all the clutter that was out of place in the main living areas of our home, and hold it “hostage” until my kids (or my husband) did a little work for it. At the end of the weekend, everything left in the bin will head to our local thrift store, because clearly the items aren’t worth much to their owner. Guess what? After just 4 days with the bin doing its job, it was almost completed cleared out this morning. Success!
My oldest saw it and immediately said “Thanks a lot, Pinterest“, however I’m proud to say I came up with this one all on my own. (Impressive, right?) To retrieve an item from the basket they have to tackle one of the chores on the list (i.e. dusting a specific room, cleaning a bathroom sink, or sweeping the kitchen floor), and I’m even leaving all the cleaning items right there so they can easily tackle their chore.
(And to be honest, if all they do is put the item where it goes I still will take that as an improvement ~ baby steps, right?)
So, for any other mommas (or papas) out there, do you have any other suggestions on keeping things clutter free in your home? I’d sure love to hear them, because as you can tell from the basket I’ve got a wee bit of work to do around here!
