 Zax Sauce

My family is addicted to Zaxby’s. Well, let’s just say my husband is addicted to Zaxby’s, so we all tag along for the ride.

If you’re not from the South, you’ve probably not even heard of a Zaxby’s, but when we moved to Alabama we noticed they keep fried chicken finger chains on just about every corner. Since Zaxby’s is our favorite (especially since they send us coupons every once in awhile), we frequent it quite a bit.

We all love the Chicken Tenders with Zax Sauce, however it’s far from the healthiest meal on the planet (clearly!) So I decided to see if I could mimic it at home, with a few healthy twists  My family loved it (my son actually proclaimed it better than Zaxbys), and it was an easy way to please everyone and enjoy a simple meal at home. Here’s how to make it at your house too . . .

Zax Sauce

  1. Looks yummy … I make a similar version of zax sauce but I add just a splash of pickle juice. It makes it have a little tang ! Very good .

  2. Thank you so much for this! I am an NC-to-OR transplant and miss Zaxby’s so much. This will be a perfect substitute.

    • You’re so welcome! I bet that would be a tough move (my husband says he can’t leave the South because he’d miss Sweet Tea too much, but I’m betting losing Sweet Tea AND Zaxby’s would put him over the edge! :)

  3. Oooo yummy!! Thanks so much for sharing the recipe and linking up to Thrifty Thursday!

  4. Liz Lambertson Gaylord says:

Did you flip these halfway through baking?

  5. Do you have to use mayo for the sauce or can you use something else? If so what else would you suggest?

  6. Going to try these tonight! Moved up to PA after having lived in the south my entire life (AL, TN & MS). I”m pregnant with my 2nd & craving and missing Zaxbys so much!!

    • Rachel – we miss Zaxby’s so much ALL the time! They do have Cane’s here in Ohio (kind of similar) but just not the same. Hope you enjoy it (and congratulations on your little one!) :)
