Aren’t those some pretty pretzels? They are delicious, but I need to make them again and update the picture.
I received the sweetest email from a 15 year old sophomore in high school, and I would love to hear your suggestions! Here’s what she sent:
Hi Ms. Laurie!
My name is Zoe, I’m 15 years old, I’m a sophomore in high school, and I live in Oklahoma. I really like your site, and I had a couple of questions. I’m part of this club at my school called B.A.L.T.O., which stands for Bring a Light to Others. Basically, candidates raise money for a different organization each year. This year, our organization is March of Dimes, which supports premature babies and their families. One week out of the school year, there is something called B.A.L.T.O. Week. Candidates go around in their classes and sell snacks and drinks to their teachers and classmates. I need recipes for snacks that are cheap, because I have a budget of $75. I already have your amazing pretzel recipe, and those homemade rice Krispy treats. Are there any others that you could share? I really need some.
Here are a few other ideas I came up with, but I’d love to hear your suggestions too!

A friend needed to do a youth church party on a tight budget. She also asked for recommendations and the consensus was canned biscuit doughnuts and just do them like holes. There’s several versions of the recipe on the web & Pinterest. Also go to local stores and see given your effort and cause, if a store will donate you some of your ingredients. Good Luck!
Frosted brownies- everyone loves brownies! Use brownie box mix, frost when cooled, and add some sprinkles for color!
My absolute favorite is SMORES squares. Basically the same as rice krispies but made with golden grahms(coupon, coupon, coupon), marshmellows, and toss in some chocolate chips while still warm. I would suggest banana bread, you buy the super ripe bananas marked down and then it’ s mostly flour and sugar which is cheap at aldis. Betty crocker cookie pouches are usually close to free as well. Best of luck to a great cause!
Breakfast cereal bars are great, too! Similar to rice crispy treats, but using cheerios instead! Each small box of cheerios makes about two batches (24 bars each batch). The new peanut butter cheerios are really good for this! You can add things like a handful of almonds, banana chips, chocolate chips, etc… to make them fun. If you live near stores that double coupons, you can usually get cheerios under $1 a box. Healthier and more filling than typical rice crispy treats (although those are super great snacks!) for teachers maybe looking for a late breakfast?
Another vote for brownies here! Back when I was in high school, one of my organizations would do bake sales and every time brownies were the first to sell out. Good luck!
Fudge is another great snack. It requires lots of chocolate chips, but I know Nestle just had some Qs available (maybe Laurie can point you there?) and one batch makes a ton. It’s also typically more of a Thanksgiving/Christmas snack (at least in my house), so having it at a random time like mid-February would be a nice treat!
You can modify brownies by adding mint frosting or flavored (cinnamon, white chocolate, etc.) baking chips, also.
