Need an easy meal this week? We tried out these Homemade Sloppy Joes earlier this week, and all absolutely loved them. Thanks to coupons, we had everything I needed right in the pantry, so I was able to take the week off from grocery shopping {as the Christmas crazies are quickly starting up at our house!) It felt so good to use up a few items from the pantry, and hopefully I’ve cleared some space for a few more deals.
The sauce is a little sweeter than any other Sloppy Joe sauce I’ve tried before, and we loved it. To spiff up those regular-week-night sloppy joes, serve over an open-faced slice of Italian Bread, and pinch those pennies while enjoying dinner at home!
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
- 1/2 cup onion, chopped
- 1 tbsp mustard
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1/4 cup barbecue sauce
- 3/4 cups ketchup
- hamburger buns, french bread, or sliced bread
- shredded cheddar cheese optional
Instructions
- Saute onions and ground beef in pan until cooked through and onions are transparent (about ten minutes.)
- Meanwhile, mix together remaining ingredients.
- Add barbecue sauce mixture to skillet, bring heat to simmering and simmer for about 15 minutes.
- Remove from heat and serve over bread or hamburger buns. Add cheese if desired.
