Halloween Decorating On The Cheap: The Friday Fluff Up

  • Sharebar

I can’t believe that I don’t have a single mum on my front porch, pumpkin on my steps, or any other fall decorating even started outside, but I at least have the inside of our home all fluffed up for fall.  When I was at Target last week I saw these absolutely perfect buckets in their $1 and $2.50 bins, and of course I knew there was a project in the works. . .  does anyone else just love those Target Dollar bins? ;)

Because I already have the Cricut and Cricut Cartridges, my only out of pocket expense was for the orange vellum (which I now have oodles of!), and a few dollars for the buckets. But, if you don’t have those items this may not be exactly the most penny pinched project. Here’s what I used:

  • Buckets from Target $1 – $2.50 (depending on size, they also had tons more great colors for fall and Christmas!)
  • My Cricut Cutter (okay, this is not a bargain at all, but it was a gift a few years ago and I love it. I’ll be watching the Black Friday sales this Thanksgiving, and promise to alert you if I hunt down a deal on these!)
  • Mini Monograms Cartridge (I have a few friends that I scrapbook with and we split the cost of any new cartridges we buy, it’s a great way to stock up on fun cartridges without paying full price!  I actually think we found this one at the Unclaimed Baggage Store in our area. . .)
  • Orange Vellum ordered from Amazon ~ I’ll have enough orange to cut enough of these for years to come!

If you don’t have a Cricut but still want to make this project on the cheap, I’m betting you could find inexpensive stickers at Hobby Lobby using this 40% off coupon.  Really, all the Cricut does is cut out the vellum which is essentially stickers, then I just peel and stick!  I do *LOVE* my Cricut, but it’s by no means the most penny-pinched item out there. I promise that I use it all the time though, especially for gifts over the Holidays!

We also made a bucket for my daughter to take to her teacher this morning (filled up with those best ever chocolate chip cookies. . . yummm!)

And here’s a peak at what our “Halloween” Kitchen Table looks like right now . . .

Have you made any cute craft projects for Halloween yet?  I definitely recommend checking out the dollar bins at Target because they were chock-full of fun Halloween stuff to use.  I’d love to hear what you’re making this month!
Take a minute to join me over on Pinterest (I love that place!)  If you have a blog and have done a little fluffing in your home, I’d love to see it, so leave your link in the comments section. Also, if there’s a craft you’ve seen on a website that you’re hoping to make, feel free to share that link as well (I’m always looking for new ideas!)

  1. Those are really cute not to get off subject but I made your choc chip cookies yesterday and yes they were the best my family loves them thanks again :)

    • Yayyyy ~ so glad you enjoyed them! We actually made them too and I used half butter and half shortening, and they were soooo good (I was out of shortening.) Thanks so much for sharing! :)

  2. Were they as good ? I made a special trip to get shortening I’ve made many a chocolate chip cookie and these were awesome .

    • I really thought they were! I’ve done them before with only butter and did not like them, but these were pretty fantastic too (and worked great without having to go to the store for more shortening!)

  3. Did you use self adhesive vellum or sprayed the back with adhesive? I tried to find the vellum to use as stickers but not having any luck.

    • I used self adhesive vellum (I ordered the one I linked to in the post), and it stuck really well ~ a little difficult to get it to lay flat, but with some work it all laid flat! Hope that helps :)
