Best Ever Chocolate Chip Cookies

  • Sharebar

These are simply the best chocolate chip cookies ever.  In fact, they may just bethe best cookies ever! Lately I’ve stocked up on those quick, simple, (ummm, cheap. . . ) ready-to-bake Nestle cookies, and it’s been forever sinced I’ve made these.  Every time I make those easy ones, my poor boy :) asks when I’m going to make some of “my real” cookies (I haven’t told him yet that I’m lazy. . .and cheap!)  Well, since Publix finally put the chocolate chips on sale (as well as many of their baking staples) you know we’ll be baking up quite a few batches at our house!

Best Ever Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. Cream shortening and sugars together until well blended.
  3. Add eggs & vanilla, mix well. In separate bowl combine flour, baking soda & salt. Mix with spoon, then add to shortening mixture and mix until well blended.
  4. Add chocolate chips.
  5. Bake in 375 oven for 7-9 minutes (I think the original recipe called for 8-10 minutes, but I bake a little closer to 7-8 because I like moist gooey cookies, you may want to cook them a little longer if you like them crispier!)
  6. When you pull them out of the oven lightly tap the pan on your counter top to “settle” your cookies.  Let cool on wire rack (if you can stand to wait . . .) and enjoy!

Now, if you really want to make your family love you (I know they already do . . .) add some BOGO Hershey’s Syrup, Reddi -Whip for $1 (use $.50/1 coupon HERE), Blue Bell Ice Cream (use $1/1 coupon HERE), and mix up a little Chocolate Chipper Sundae!  Publix is going to make us pudgy this week  . . .

  1. YUM! I’m going to try these with heath bar chips instead of chocolate chip…we’ll see!

    • YUMMMMM Sinead! I’m kicking myself because (again) I was out of shortening today and made them with butter. THEY REQUIRE SHORTENING!!!! I’m so mad at myself . . .

Let me know how they taste! :)

  2. Sarah Allen says:

I have this same recipe that I found in an old 1965 Cookie Book! They won the Cookie of the Year award in like 1950 or something…. YUMMY! I use chocolate chunk chips sometimes too :)

    • I knew that recipe had been around forever – and I love chocolate chunks or even white chocolate in them too. . . YUMMMM!

    • Did the cookbook say who made the recipe? I’d love to know.

      • I got my recipe from a friend who made them before we had kids, and I had to have them! I’m not sure where the original recipe is from Bree, but they’re so goo! :)

        • I have a binder with recipes I’ve gotten off the internet. My family loved the recipe and I feel horrible to not know who to credit, especially since Sarah Allen said the person won an award and was published in a book. I’ll just list it as “an amazing person we may never know”

P.S. There are quite a few pages that state: “Source: Laurie, the passionate penny pincher” ;)

  3. Laura, I made the cookies and wanted to make sure it was 2 cups of shortening (the 16 oz can). They didn’t turn out well and were very greasy. Thanks.

    • Oh nooooo! It definitely is 1 cup of shortening (I’ve made that recipe 1,000 times without using the card, I can’t believe I typed two – maybe I was thinking two sticks of butter?) I am so sorry – I feel just horrible and hate that you wasted the ingredients :(

  4. That is okay. You and your website has saved me much more than the cost of the ingedients. I will try again someday with just 1 cup of the shortening.

    • I still feel terrible – I just double checked and the rest of the quantities are right . . . hope you get courageous again!

  5. Thank you for the recipe and showing the sale price. Can’t wait to make these cookies!
