What's For Dinner? Monte Cristo Sandwich

Update – we made these tonight and they were FABULOUS!!!  I was a little afraid of the jelly so I used it pretty sparingly, but I think you could use all that the recipe calls for.  These are really yummy and a nice treat in the middle of the week (but if you’re looking for health food these are NOT IT!!!  You could use Reduced Fat Crescent Rolls though . . . .)  Enjoy!

I’ve never tried this recipe, or even a Monte Cristo Sandwich before, but a friend of mine made it after we got the recipe this weekend (we were discussing the many fabulous qualities of the Pillsbury Crescent Roll), and said it was delicious.  So, we’re having this at our house tonight, and I can’t wait!


This is not the greatest meal deal around (unless you’re willing to make a Kroger run!), but I was too excited about it not to share!   I’m betting many of you will have quite a bit of this in your stockpile, and hopefully the few items you do need won’t add up to much.  Here’s the recipe . . .

2 8 oz cans Pillsbury Refrigerated Crescent Dinner Rolls
These are on sale at Kroger for the small cans (4 pack size) this week, but no great Publix deals!  Use $1/2 from 3/28 SS, $.40/2 from 1/31 SS, $1/3 HERE


3 tablespoons Butter, melted


3 tablespoons Honey
Publix brand will work!

6 ounces Thinly sliced smoked Turkey
Oscar Meyer Lunch Meat Zip Pack On Sale $2.50

6 ounces Medium sliced meunster cheese


6 ounces thinly sliced cooked ham
Oscar Meyer Lunch Meat Zip Pack On Sale $2.50

½ cup Red raspberry preserves (Could substitute with Strawberry if you have it on hand)
$1/2 Smucker’s from 3/7 RP

Press crescent rolls into eight large rectangles (four per package of crescent rolls).  Melt butter and honey in microwave for 30 seconds, brush over rolls, reserving a small amount.  Bake at 350 for 10 minutes (until lightly browned).  Cool for 10 minutes.

OK, now you’re going to layer these like lasagna (the crescent rolls will be your “noodles”).  Place turkey on top of first crescent sheet, then cover with another crescent sheet.  Next layer ham and cheese, then another sheet of crescent rolls.  Finally layer with jam and one more sheet of crescent rolls (this just sounds so yummy, I’m about to hop out of my chair and make it this morning!)  Brush crescent rolls with remaining honey butter, pop in oven for another 10-15 minutes, until crust is browned and cheese melted.

Cool ten minutes and slice into 6-8 servings.  Enjoy!

  1. Very good recipe…we are not super health nuts so i actually mixed half turkey and half ground pork…soooo goood!

    Oh wow! My version is different. I make french toast using regular slices of bread of any brand. Then I put ham/turkey/cheese on it and it’s done.

    Those are probably better! Thanks for the idea!

    These were great! Served them for Easter after a very long morning at church. With salad, deviled eggs, and chips, this was a terrific meal for a crowd without being too filling or time consuming. Definitely will become a staple at our house!
